The Fashion of Pamplemosses

Pamplemosses is the realization of a dream – the embodiment of a will to further the art of living on this planet. Be happy, and have grace: these are the seeds from which Pamplemosses has grown. We all strive to fill our lives with laughter, understanding, and purpose. Every day, we begin these lives by making a choice about how we present ourselves to the world.. This begins with the clothes on our backs: our second skin.

We make our clothes from 100% bamboo fiber, left in its natural state and silk-screened with water-based ink. Bamboo is one of the most sustainable, efficient, and low-impact crops in the world, and the resulting cloth is soft, strong, and easy to care for.

Every piece we produce is cut by a designer and enriched with a free-hand drawing by our exclusive in-house artist. The fit and imagery reflect a harmony between the cloth and the individual wearing it, just as the choice of bamboo reflects our commitment to living in harmony with our planet and with each other. We sincerely hope that choosing bamboo clothing brings you as much joy as Pamplemosses has brought us.

Letter from the Artist

Who would have thought one of the hardest plants in the world, would yield one of the softest fabrics! Pamplemosses has carefully taken into consideration, life with its many faces to help bridge the gap between science and spirituality. What purpose serves man? Science and spirituality are one if we could only see it. Free will, offers us infinite opportunity to play out our heart’s desire. Each heart holds its own torch, fulfilling its own dream, and within this dream we all meet on this one living planet, sharing the same breathe, the same ocean, the same roads… Power within the earth’s core lies to destroy us as we continue to exploit and conquer her, a new stance should possibly be looked into now, one of friendship, one of appropriateness and one of love. If properly aligned with spirit, all should be as one, in “ease of movement”. Bamboo fabric brings clothing a whole new harmony, joyously comfortable and ridiculously sustainable to grow. In our current global situation, we should not be too proud of ourselves and we can admit, some changes need to be implemented in our lives if we are to survive as a species. Looked at as a garden nightmare for its monstrous growth habits, bamboo has a habit of overtaking an area and excluding all else very similar to modern man on this planet, she looks like our ideal partner for a new symbiotic relationship. As we continue to grow in awareness, and live life on earth, Pamplemosses is proud to bring products forward knowing we have the best intentions for all parties involved.

 <block id="block1">

Life. Comfort. Balance.

Known as “friend of the people” in China and called “brother” in Vietnam, bamboo has been an integral and revered resource for millennia. It is used to build homes and furniture, to make shoes and instruments, as a source of food, fuel, shade and beauty. It is the world’s fastest growing plant, gaining as much as 4 feet in a day, and it thrives in almost any climate without pesticides or chemicals. Pound for pound, bamboo is stronger than oak, and it produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.

Bamboo fabric? Absolutely. Bamboo fibers have a round, smooth surface, making them ideal for spinning into yarn. The fabric is incredibly durable yet feels like silk or cashmere against the skin. Bamboo clothes are hypoallergenic, antibacterial and UV protective, and because the fiber is naturally breathable, they quickly wick moisture away from the skin, keeping you cooler in the heat and warmer in the cold.

Aside from being stronger and softer than cotton, bamboo actually gives back to Mother earth. Cotton textile production accounts for 24% of the world’s chemical fertilizer and pesticide usage, chemicals that end up in our soil, in our water, and on your body. Bamboo actually replenishes the soil by filtering out the excess nitrogen those fertilizers leave behind. Instead of contributing to soil and watershed degradation, the shoots help prevent erosion, and, despite their rapid growth, they require dramatically less water than conventional crops.

We encourage you to get more information about bamboo growing, bamboo products, and bamboo clothing. We sincerely hope you will enjoy the remarkable benefits of nature’s most renewable resource, and that you’ll help introduce others to the amazing potential of this little plant.

Be happy, have grace.

Care Instructions

Bamboo is a recent arrival on the fabric scene and just like anything else it comes with it’s own set of care instructions.

For our adult lines, if you want to keep the vibrancy of the color and the longer length of our silhouettes, then it is best to wash the shirt inside out in a cold or warm wash cycle and hang it to dry.

If you would rather throw your shirt in with your regular laundry, you may do so, but please know that some shrinkage will occur and the artwork will fade a bit due to the heat from the dryer. Drying the product does give it a very worn-in and comfy feel, but it may alter the sharpness of the shirt you purchase. The great thing about bamboo is that it does stretch back out, but you will loose between 1 to 3 inches in length on the first hot cycle it goes through in the dryer. We take this into consideration when we make our shirts, which is why they may seem a little long at first, but if you know you’re the kind of person who doesn’t want to fuss with hanging your shirts dry – then we suggest purchasing a size larger.

Our baby line has the shrinkage taken into consideration. It’s prepared to rough it out in the hot wash and high dry cycles along with the rest of your baby’s things that need to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with ease and efficiency.

For our 95% bamboo, 5% spandex hoodie, just turn it inside out and throw it in a normal wash and dry cycle, and it will be clean and ready to wear.

PAMPLEMOSSES is the brainchild of some talented people coming together who formed a PARTNERSHIP, to align their skills and knowledge with the life purpose of bettering our planet.

Their idyllic sanctuary up in the Topanga Canyon was the perfect venue for us to view the line.

ABOUT PAMPLEMOSSES
The Company name, Pamplemosses is a nonsensical word Gene Eu created when he was 13 years old that reflects the playful joyfulness of this lifestyle brand.

THE PARTNERS

Andrew Broz was the youngest model agent in the modeling business and brings his connections and sensibility to the brand.
He continues to work with such high end clients such as Nicole Miller, Christian Dior, Vogue Italia, Baby Phat, Rolex and Cadillac while growing Pamplemosses.

Artist Gene Eu provides all of the original line drawings that reflect a deep spiritual sensibility. The prints and symbols on the tees, often nature-themed, project positive energy.
Unfortunately we didn’t meet the rest of this impressive team: partners Jane Derryberry, Ruben Barrett, and Operations Manager, Tricia Sanzaro. Tricia previously worked directly under the legendary Trey Laird in New York for several years on campaigns such as GAP and Donna Karan.

HOW IT STARTED
About 2 years ago, Gene conceptualized the idea for Pamplemosses. With the help of Jane Derryberry, Andrew Broz and Ruben Barrett, Gene stated the company with independent financing. Says, Andrew, “Everyone’s on the same page, and has the same goal and vision.” This lifestyle line is focusing on developing men’s, women, babies and toddler tee shirts. In the future, they’ll be branching out in many different directions.

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS
Famous fashion photographer, Robert Erdmann, donated his time and shot all of the images for the company’s website and as did many of the well-known models who posed for the campaign.

THE ECO COMPONENT

Most of the bamboo fabric you’ll find is a bamboo blend – not here. Says Andrew, “It’s not 100% perfect, but it’s THE closest to perfection that is available at this time, as we only get the fiber from China. We make the fabric in LA and do all production and manufacturing locally in LA. Our ultimate goal is to produce everything from start to finish in LA.” China currently holds the patent to getting the bamboo from the plant to the fabrics and sends the company the unfinished bolt of fabric. Pamplemosses takes it from there and completes manufacturing and design processes in LA.

THE SECRET TO THEIR SUCCESS
“We have not allowed our egos to get in the way of getting a great product out."

OUR FAVORITE PIECES
The peacock print tanks with matching boy cut briefs and the plunging protection belt tee we’re now wearing that’s been picked up by the fashion press. As Andrew explained, “Bamboo is rapidly gaining in popularity because it conforms and drapes to your body as well as wicking moisture away not mention how incredibly soft it feels.”

EDITORIALS
Andrew is on his game; his many connections both in NY and LA support the project. So far Pamplemosses has appeared in C Magazine, In Style, and Lucky Magazine, to name a few.
With all of these supporters, and more coming on board, we predict big things for this eco joyful brand.
